Really no words can do justice to this movie. Lots of emotions…..so I’ll leave you with my only advice…..GO.SEE.IT! One of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I can totally relate. Growing up a child of the south in the 60’s we always had “help”. They were like family members. The audience today were of many colors and I just wanted to go sit by one of my sistas and hold her hand and see if she felt the same way I did. Thankfully I never knew anyone who was like “Hilly”. Most everyone I knew was more like “Skeeter”. However, I just don’t know if I can ever eat chocolate pie again! (you have to see the movie to know what I’m talking about).
My mom really enjoyed herself. She wanted to eat at KFC (one of her favorites – not mine – but today was all about her) and afterwards we headed to the “picture show” as it was called in her day. She said it had been years since she’d been to the movies. The loud previews just about did her in until the movie started but once it did she settled down and was able to enjoy herself. When I picked her up at her assisted living cottage, she informed everyone she was going to lunch with her daughter and then to the movie….nothing like rubbing it in! Then when she got back I saw her in the dining room telling everyone about her adventure! I’m so glad I’m able to do things with and for her that bring her joy. I only hope that if I make it to 91 I’m able to get out and enjoy myself too!
On a different note, we just booked a little beach trip in October for a few days with daughter and her family. Then we are taking all the kids and grandkids to Calloway Gardens for Fantasy In Lights. We plan on going the weekend before Thanksgiving or the first week of December. We’ve never been and we decided that we’d do that for an early Christmas present for everyone. We’re hoping to stay at The Lodge & Spa. If anyone has been, we’d love to hear your experience or suggestions on things to do.

I have visited Calloway Gardens many times but have never stayed at the Lodge...although it looks lovely!
I would love to go see "Help"
as well. Maybe I can get my hubby to take me!!
Hugs,
Susan
I went with a friend to see The Help. We both loved it as well! There were tears and laughter throughout the movie and clapping at the end.
My sweet husband actually went with me to see The Help. I loved the book, and the movie was not a dissapointment at all. It was awesome, and I was so moved by it.
Glad you liked it too.
We've been to Fantasy in Lights 3 times and its beautiful! Definitely ride the trolley instead of going through in your own car. The town of Pine Mountain has some neat shops. We always eat at Callaway's Country Store restaurant. If the weather is nice, the drive through animal park is a winner with the kids. And if you like history, you have to visit the Little White House. They even had a scavenger hunt for the kids to get them interested.
Okay, now I HAVE to read the book and SEE the movie! So glad you both had a great time. Elie just was at Calloway this past week for Rose Ball (her boyfriend's fraternity). Can't recall where they stayed, but I believe Mark has stayed at the Lodge.
I LOVED this post, Judy! It made me smile hearing how you gave your mom such a wonderful day. I really want to see this now but think I'll start with the book! :)
I'm loving all of these great comments! I'm going to see it tomorrow with two sweet friends for a girl's night out. Can't wait!
I read the book because the previews to the movie looked so good. Tomorrow a group of us are going for mexican dinner and The Help. I can't wait!
I loved the movie and the book...in fact I plan to go again with another friend!
Glad you enjoyed your outing with your mom! :)
I absolutely loved the book Judy and can't wait to see the movie. Gabi's mommy is still in hospital, but Gabi goes home today, to get ready for school(starts tomorrow).
So I think I might go to the "show" tomorrow.
Thanks so much for the review.
Loved the movie, Judy!! Saw3 it this weekend for our anniversary and you are right....I'll never eat chocolate pie again!!
I can't wait to see it! loved the book and hoped that I would love the movie too!
Hey, Judy! Hope you are having a fun summer. Yes, loved The Help, read the book & saw the movie 2 times already. Loved them both, such a moving story. And you are right about the chocolate pie. :) xoxo
if that movie will be shown in my country Philippines then I can get a chance to see it.

I just saw THE HELP on Thursday night...in Jackson, MS where it takes place...with my daughter, my sister, my Mom and my Aunt. We ALL loved it!

Great lamps and I love all your zebra. Thanks for putting Karaskottage on you blog roll.
So sweet that you were able to take your mom to see The Help. I use to go by the assisted li ving center and pick up my grandma and take her shopping. She loved to go and come back and tell her friends what all we did while we were out.
I also read the book and couldn't put it down. The movie was great too.
