She sold most of her dining room furniture as she does not know whether or not she will need it in another house and certainly not at the lake. It was very formal furniture and the lake is already packed full and furnished very casually but comfortably. The house is huge and they have been busy cleaning, sorting, throwing out, selling, and just generally getting rid of years of accumulated "stuff." I need to do that myself! Her daughter is very organized and when she comes to visit, they have just gone through one room at a time. She says she hasn't missed a thing!
They have always had big homes and this one was custom built. I remember when they were building this house, I went with her to pick out several things and while our tastes were and are different, she went along with some of my ideas. I have made some suggestions over the years on her choices in decorating the house and she has incorporated them. Her red rooms (dining and formal living room) I like to think were inspired by me! She did have a professional decorator come in at the beginning and of course, some of her ideas were used. She says she does not mind giving up her big house because it's a lot of work maintaining it - not to mention the grounds. Her husband loves to work in the yard and he has done a wonderful job landscaping it. I think we reach a "certain age" and see that we don't "need" all the things we once thought were necessary to living.
Our family has enjoyed many years of holidays visiting in her gorgeous home and we will all miss it but like I told her.....the next house will be a new opportunity to shop for and decorate and that's something I ALWAYS like to do!

Hi...I LOVED the chocolate bedroom from yesterday and now I see how it fit in so well in such a GORGEOUS home...From reading your post it is obvious your sister is making a correct decision for her and her family at this time...so I'm sending thoughts of a quick and profitable sale for her!

Well, I just discovered I'd already added you to my blog roll...wow, I have great taste! :-)
Yes, your sister has a very lovely house.
Blessings,
Sher
Thanks for your comment tonight! I didn't see the platters on this last visit to SH&G, but I didn't make it to the front of the store where I had seen them before. We made a pretty hasty exit after Emma announced her intentions to everyone in the store!
If you can't find a platter, you are welcome to borrow mine. I know you have a daughter in Wetumpka, and our church home and my husband's work are in Montgomery. I usually just pull out the platter for parties, so really, you are welcome to use it. Depending on the time, it might even come to you with a cake on it! :)
I noticed your sweet ballerina and wondered if this is a B'm or Wetumpka grandchild. My 4-year-old takes ballet in Wetumpka, so I just wondered if we might twirl by your little ballerina someday.
Morning girl...Your post brought back memories of my mom & dad getting rid of all their stuff and downsizing...it was a very emotional time for me...when all our kids moved out Bill & I sold our big house & bought this small one but I still have it packed with my stuff and we still have a good size yard...not the acreas we use to have but it keeps us busy...I sometimes wonder what I will do when it gets to much to maintain...I wish you sister the best & much happiness in this next step in her life..take care girl and have a great weekend.
I do love her so much and yes my soul burns for change.
Your sisters home is beautiful.Makes me wanna get up and get busy.
I wish your sister peace in downsizing - it can be such a trying time with so many memories attached. But then again, there is that opportunity to shop some more. Sally
Gorgeous home!
We hope to sell our home in the next year or so. Our dream is to live at the lake. Hopefully we will be able to make that dream come true. When we sell...there will be lots of going through the house, deciding what to keep, what to give to the kiddos and what to sell!
Gorgeous house,Looking beautiful and nice also,Have a great weekend,We will be able to make that dream come true.
