What’s That Smell?

Catchy title but I just wanted to get your attention!     I’m searching for a new perfume and hope to get some good ideas.   For years and years I wore “Beautiful” by Estee Lauder.    My daughter discovered it while she was in junior high and we both loved it!    It was our “signature” scent.

Beautiful

However, a sneaky little thing called “hormones” changed the scent on me.   It just doesn’t do it for me anymore.      Recently I went to Ulta and sampled several scents.    By the way, I had to find out from my daughter the reason they have those coffee beans in little jars is so you can sniff the beans and you’ll have a clean palette to continue smelling scents…who knew?!    Apparently not me!!

One that I was drawn to is D&G Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbanna.

D___G_LIGHT_BLUE_W

This is how they describe this scent:

D & G Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana is a fragrance made for the casual woman. Introduced in 2001, this perfume features a subtle scent that will bring you the attention you desire. Its mix of apple, rose, jasmine and musk fragrances gives it a unique scent that is perfect for your next social event. Whether you are attending a lunchtime gathering of friends and family or a happy hour with your colleagues, this is right perfume for you.

I remember trying the D&G perfume when we were in Mexico on a trip.   I don’t know why I didn’t buy it then but I was still wearing Beautiful.    I don’t want to spend a fortune but want to find something that I can wear for day or night.

So can you help a girl out by giving me some suggestions on what you wear?

Don’t forget to enter my giveaway here….ends tomorrow night!

I wore Beautiful for years too. I loved it so much and then one day I did not want to smell that any more. For several years I wore Tommy Girl (don't laugh...it's a dumb name...it's not for little girls). It has a sweet sporty scent.

I can't wait to see what others recommend.

While you are at Ulta, check out the rollerball or small sprays. These usually sale for around $20 - $25. I recently bought the Coach Poppy combo and the Mark Jacobs Daisy combo. The D&C Light Blue small spray will be my next purchase. These are a wonderful way to try a fragrance without making a big financial commitment, especially if, like me, you like to change your perfume with your mood

My very favorite is Jessica McClintock...I have been asked many times what scent I am wearing.

Good luck! I think trying to find a new fragrance is a daunting task since so many scents don't seem to agree with my "chemistry." It doesn't help that the stores don't offer the little sample vials anymore so you can try it several times before making an investment in a large bottle. Typically, when I finally do find something I like, they eventually end up discontinuing it and I have to start the process all over.

For years, I've worn "Ysatis" (pronounced E-sa-teese) by Givenchy and have always gotten a lot of compliments on it but it seems to be getting harder to find. When I don't get it as a gift, I typically order it through eBay but I think Macy's still carries it. Nobody seems to carry the Ysatis dusting powder anymore (it smelled heavenly!) but sometimes I do see it listed on eBay for $200-or more !!

Some time back, another blogger asked for fragrance suggestions and Amazing Grace (Philosophy) seemed to be the #1 most mentioned perfume by her readers so I ordered a small sample bottle off eBay for about $10. I liked it too (very fresh and clean smelling) but I find I still reach for the Ysatis bottle most often.

Ha! I wear Light Blue - started about 5 years ago and still LOVE it! I don't think you will go wrong with it.

I seldom wear perfume. I prefer just a clean natural smell. I'm very scent sensitive and have worn perfumes in the past that I've since tired of. I used to wear Beautiful too! Don't perfume scents take you back in time to when you wore them? That's the neat thing about them. At the moment, I like the Shelley Kyle Parfums.

I love the Philosophy fragrances , Amazing grace, Pure Grace and Inner Grace. So many people stop me to ask what I am wearing. They are very soft and clean scents, not too heavy

I used to love (and wear) Beautiful! However, my signature scent is "Jessica McLintock" (and, have worn it for over 20 years)! It's such a fresh, clean scent ... I always get compliments on it. When I do want to switch it up, I wear Clinique's "Happy" (the original one) ... actually, it's very close to Jessica ... apparently, I'm a big fan of gardenia. Happy Sniffing!

Ditto what Arlene said about Clinque Aromatics. It's the exlixor and I always get asked what it is when I wear it. Smells amazing. Had a friend once that used it for room deodorizer!

my mother wore beautiful also for quite a while and liked it. I bought her Marc Jacobs Daisy eau so Fresh for Christmas last year and she likes it and has told me she has received many compliments from others who ask her what she is wearing. I have also worn Light Blue and like Clinique Happy as well. I think that all these fragrances have similar notes and that is why we are drawn to them ;)

Also I wanted to mention since I chose that fragrance for her, that I have worn Light Blue as well as Clinique Happy and always get compliments on those too. I think that all these fragrances mentioned contain the similar notes and that is why we like them;)

I found Alfred Sung Shi about two years ago and really like it. For years I wore Estee Lauder Cinnnabar during Winter months...that was my signature scent. It was too spicey for Summer though.

I tried different scents and left the Cinnabar behind, but tried it again last year. Do not like it at all now, does not even smell the same as it did in my opinion or maybe it is hormones or the lack thereof:-) I purchased my first Shi at the lake outlets, to give it a try. I've since bought it in department stores. The fragrance seems to be the same at either vendor. Soft, feminine, nice scent.

Hi Judy!

Sounds like we may like the same kinds of scents!

I am drawn to clean, white floral smells and I love a fresh linen or just showered soapy fresh scent. Does this sound like something you also like?

If so --- I highly recommend so many of the Jo Malone fragrances (I wear the Blackberry and Bay scent everyday). I am not a big fan of Jennifer Anniston, but her signature cologne has a fresh clean floral smell. I also wear Burberry Brit.

My mother has worn Jessica McClintock for years and though I adore it on her, it makes me sneeze when I try to wear it!

The Grace family of scents from Philosophy are so fresh and lovely but I can't smell them after about ten minutes. Not enough staying power for me!

Just copied all these suggestions from a magazine the other day and need to check them out. They all fall in the same category: white clean crisp florals

(Sorry this is so long!)

L'eau for Her by Narciso Rodriguez
(Bloomingdale's)

See by Chloe eau
(Bloomingdale's)

Paris l'eau Rose by Balenciaga
(Saks Fifth Avenue)

Marni eau de perfume
(Saks)

I plan on checking out those last four. Let me know if you end up liking one of them too!

Alison :)

I wear Envy Me, by Gucci. I've been wearing it for about 4 years. It is my favorite scent. I also like Clinique Happy and coach. I have so many perfumes that I just went through to pass down to my niece wish I could think of all the names.

Hello :) look into Calvin Klein Euphoria. It's clean and lightly floral like Beautiful, but with a little more spice. Also you may like Lacoste Pour Homme...don't be afraid that it's marketed as a men's fragrance. It is very sweet with hits of citrus and a touch of musk. I see both of those as evolutions of beautiful. Update us when you find one!
