Classic Southern Charm

Nothing catches my attention more than a charming southern interior.    I recently came across the home of Charlotte, North Carolina designer Kristen Cox and her husband Craig.     Kristen and Craig’s home is awash in calming neutrals and rich woods.       Kristen says “we both love tradition, but with contemporary elements, unexpected colors and lots of comfort.”    Let’s take a look at her gorgeous home and see how she put her design philosophy to work:

 front of house

Here’s the front of Kristen and Craig’s home

living room

Step inside and you are immediately drawn to the soothing palette with little pops of color

back of chairs

Kristen used a favorite fabric on the back of her slipper chairs for a punch of color and pattern

bookcases

Seagrass rugs, white slipcovers,  dark wood and built-ins….what’s not to love?

window and chairs

dining room

kitchen table

Look at this wonderful oversized light over the kitchen table

kitchen island

The walnut island offers lots of storage.   Kristen painted the kitchen area in a warm charcoal color….certainly not an expected color in the kitchen, and of course a large dose of white to off-set the dark color

kitchen windows

She used tea-stained roman shades in the kitchen and banded them using the same charcoal as the wall color

bathroom

The master bath features dual sinks sat on a dark walnut cabinet.   The mirror is an antique.    Kristen also used a pair of sconces in addition to the overhead lighting.

bedroom

In the all-white bedroom, Kristen used two pillows for an unexpected pop of color on the bed

bedroom windows

I love how she used three panels for the window treatment here which adds another layer of interest to the room

I hope you got some great ideas from Kristen and Craig’s home.   I know I did!    You can see the full article on Kristen’s charming home here.

Gorgeous home....thanks for sharing. What do you think of seagrass rugs? We are thinking about it in my traditional/country French home. Is it too contemporary for me? Linda

Beautiful! I found your blog through looking over at Southern Girl Designs. I'm a 50 something girl from Oklahoma. I love your blog design. I am looking into getting my blog designed too. :D

Judy,
This truly is a lovely home. I like the understated elegance Kristen and her husband created. It is a sophisticated and serene space but definitely not boring. My favorite was the bathroom, which is so rich and luxurious with the dark wood and vessel sinks. ~Cathy~

That home does look magazine-worthy! So pretty! We enjoyed seeing you also at the recital and birthday party. The recital pictures I posted were mostly from the dress rehearsal. The stage was pretty dark this year, and my pictures from the show were grainy also. I hope Shannon got some good ones with her new camera, but with the dim light, I hope she's not disappointed if she didn't. We enjoyed the party so much, and it was so nice visiting with both of you. I hope we can meet at Sonshine Playground on a pretty day sometime this summer since it is so convenient to both of us.
