Charleston, Savannah and St. Simon's Island

Hubby and I are going on a little vacation next month (February). I know it's not the ideal time weather-wise to visit beautiful places like Charleston, Savannah and St. Simon's Island, but with his work, that is when we must go. We usually fly or cruise to someplace warm, but this year I agreed to a "trade off" of a "big" vacation to get hardwood floors in my den and dining room. I love the look of hardwood floors with big, beautiful oriental rugs on them or the more casual sisal rugs, and he's agreed that now is the time! We were going to Cabo San Lucas but he "made me an offer I couldn't refuse" with the hardwood floor suggestion. I agreed but I told him he has to take me to the beach this summer (we haven't been since the devastating hurricanes of two years ago). He and I will go this Spring and later I am going on two "girl's" beach trips.

My mom and I went to Savannah about 8 years ago - one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen. I've never been to Charleston or St. Simon's - places I've always wanted to visit.

I am asking for any suggestions for places to stay, places to eat, special things to do in those cities, etc. I know we will eat at Paula Deen's in Savannah. We would like to stay at a B&B in either Savannah or Charleston - any suggestions?

I know that a lot of ya'll have been to these wonderful areas of the south and I would love to hear any ideas you can give me for our trip.

Thanks bunches!

I've have always wanted to go to Savannah! We almost went a few years ago b/c we were at Sea Island, GA which is right next to St. Simon's (sp). We actually ate at a place called Gnats in St. Simon's and it was so good. It's like a burger joint but they had a great fried green tomato sandwich!

By the way, I came to your blog through Kelly's!

Charleston just so happens to be my favorite place on EARTH. There are a MILLION fantastic restaurants but I'm going to recommend Magnolia's for brunch and I've heard great things about High Cotton although I haven't made it there yet. You can spend more than one day walking up and down King Street and Market Street going into the little shops. If you have time, go to Middleton Place. It's about 20 min outside of town but it's ABSOLUTELY STUNNING...We took the carriage tour around the grounds and it's breathtaking. Also, there are a few locations for the Carolina Cider Company. If you're a fan of ciders, jams, and other amazing canned goodies- my favorite being the sweet potato butter- then this place is unREAL. I always stop on my way out of Charleston and stock up on the goods! Here's the URL: http://www.carolinaciderco.com/

There are carriage tours around the historic downtown that are really interesting and ladies sitting on the steps everywhere weaving sweet water baskets. Ahhh, I want to go back!!!

Good Evening Judy,
Oh my gosh, you are going to some beautiful places there. I have never been to Savannah either, but my Sister has. She ate at the Paula Deen's Restaurant there. I so love Paula Deen and would so love to meet her someday. I hope you will take some pictures and share it with us. I don't know much about the other places. I've never been to them either. Sorry I couldn't have been any help for you on that part. I know you will have a great time. Take care my friend and have a great evening. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Hey first time reader here. I found you through Kelly's blog. My husband and I are going to Charleston for our anniversary this year in October. So when you get back let me know where you stay and what to do there.

I can't wait to read about your trip. Have fun!

Hi, Judy, I've been to both Savannah & Charleston, although it's been several years since I've been. We stayed once in Savannah at a B&B called The Eliza Thompson house & it was very quaint and cute. It's right down the street from Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House which is a great place for lunch (and fab breakfast, although you won't need that at the B&B). I'm sure they have a website. It's an old house in the historic district. There are a lot to choose from, so I know you'll love it! Have fun & enjoy those new hardwoods.

Rhoda

I am an African American woman with naturally kinky/coarse hair. I decided to stop using relaxers over a year ago, furthermore straightening my hair became a difficult task. I could never seem to get the

results I was looking for out of a flat iron without going to a professional hair salon and spending $65.00 a visit.

I

starting using this oil when I colored my hair at the recommendation of my hairdresser because my hair sometimes felt limp and lifeless. I still use it now that I've let my gray grow out. It makes my hair

feel and smell great. I found that I don't have to wash my hair every day; I just spread some Curl Cream on my hands and scrunch it through my hair and it works out the "bedhead" look. I don't have super

curly hair; in fact, when I wash it, it looks straight. My hairdress is the one who showed me, using the Curl Cream, that my hair is actually naturally curly..not just wavy. I love it and use it nearly every

day.
