Black or White?

I recently showed ya’ll the french door in my kitchen which was painted white.    I asked for input on whether or not to paint it black or leave it white and also whether or not to paint the lower cabinets black.       I got a lot of wonderful responses, and ya’ll are about equally divided on your thoughts.    So here’s what I’ve decided for now:    not to paint the lower cabinets black but I did go ahead and paint the door, just not around each and every glass pane in case I decide to go back to the original white.     So now take a look at the “new” black and give me some feed back on how it looks.    I still can’t decide!

Of course, you’ll have to imagine the panes are painted out black and I’m also considering adding white beadboard wallpaper  under the chair railing……decisions, decisions……

  Here’s the white for comparison…

I think I know what a lot of ya’ll will say.   I’ll just have to see if my prediction comes true.

Well, I think you should do what you truly want to. After all it is just paint. However if it were mine just for an opinion, I would leave it white. I can't wait to see what you decide. Hugs, Marty

I think the black ties in the other black elements in the room. Looks great!

I like both of them. My suggestion is that if you're going to leave it black, multiply the frames you had on your left wall. You had a single picture frame either gray or black, hang both of them both vertical (hang the gray one top because the color black is heavy) to follow up with your door panels. The mirror on your right is perfect because it is shaped different from your door.
If you decide to keep it white then keep the accessories on sides of the door simple (do not hang both of the pictures on your left).
Hope this helps!

I am guessing since the tape is still on the door you are planning to repaint it to white but, it does balance those black applicances.

I like the black (even though I suggested leave it white). I love the idea of beadboard wallpaper below the chair rail. Linda

I like the black. I too think it ties in well with the black elements and fridge. I say leave the cabinets white however. I think you'll regret painting the (what look to be nice) white cabinets black.

My vote is white. It blends very well with all the existing molding.

I like the black. I just painted our door going out to the back porch black too. It has windows on the top. My door looked like yours before I painted even around the window trim. It looked like a big checkerboard and I thought I had made a big mistake. But once I painted ALL of it, it really looked great. I will be posting about it soon. I also painted our door going to the garage black too. It hides all the little dirty hand prints of my four boys!

Traci

I love the door black and I'm thinking of painting my lower cabinets from white to black, so I'll be anxious to see what you decide about that. Everything you do makes me want you for my best friend. You have such great taste.

Really love the black. I think it gives the end of that room some weight and some personality. Nice choice.

Hi design sista - I prefer a white door, but the black doesn't look so bad (the glass kind of breaks it up a bit so it isn't overwhelming). I say definitely go for the white under the moulding!!

Personally, I love the white. It is just a cleaner look. It's your kitchen though so you stick with what you think looks good! :)

For me I prefer the white--but that's also because I've always wanted a white kitchen, but the black door looks great too. As I was sitting here looking through your first page of blog posts (I just found your blog through the BlogHer ad on my blog--love them!)I'm noticing the beautiful design on your blog background and I'm wondering how it would look if you stenciled that design in black onto the white in your kitchen--maybe just on the door even--or maybe stencil it in white onto the black door?? I do love your black front door. It's gorgeous! See I told you it was just me and a thing with wanting a white kitchen. LOL! Anyway I've chatted your leg off here and I'm glad I found your beautiful blog.
