Favorite Thrift/Yard Sale Finds

Let's all join the party at Rhoda's at Southern Hospitality. She's asking that we post our favorite yard sale and/or thrift find....okay, this is going to be hard for a lot of us because we have a lot of favorites. I have decided on mine, what about you?

I must admit that my first favorite is not thrifted or from a yard sale but instead bought at my first auction about 4 years ago. Hubby and I went intent on finding a sideboard....instead we found two -- one for the den and one for the dining room. The one pictured here is my absolute favorite.

Now for my favorite yard sale item. The hubs came home one day all excited about a street find. Yep, that's right, he found this little baby on the street in front of a house in the not to nice section of town. I wish I had a picture of the before....it was all scuffed up and even worse (for me anyway) smelled of smoke. We aired it out, hubby sanded it and I painted it (black of course) then distressed it before adding a coat of antiquing glaze. While it is still not in the best condition, some of the drawers need to be redone, I really love this chest of drawers. I use it in my bathroom to hold all kinds of things. That way, I can use the top for display just as you would use the chest in any other room. I recently added the appliques after spraying them black, sanding them and brushing over with a dark wood stain.

And there you go! I hope you join in the party so we can all share some of our favorite pieces around the house.

Wow. WOW! Doesn't it make you wonder what people are thinking when they throw things like that out?! I am a true recycling devotee so I'm all about rescuing stuff. Good for you!

Hi Judy,
You and your husband did an incredible makeover on the chest. I love the way you have the accessories displayed on both pieces. Yours is another home like so many I look at that proves you don't have to go broke to have a beautiful home!
Have a great day,
Diane

I'm glad that I popped in here this morning...my hubby is looking over my shoulder and he said that there are some pieces like this from time to time at such and such flea market. I told him to snag one if he gets the chance. Now I'll know what to do with it, if he does.

Your finds are fabulous! The street find is awesome. I found a headboard like that and I felt like I was on the prowl driving around to pick it up! It was on a not so nice part of town and I was hoping no one would see me!

Gorgeous pieces! The sideboard was stunning and don't you just love auctions? I've been addicted for years. The "curbside" find was also a treat and pops against the red background. That's what I really call thrifting!

Those are great finds! I want to find something similar to keep in my kitchen to house linens and the kids art supplies. But I just never seem to find the time to explore the flea markets and antique stores around here. Maybe once the children are back in school!

I can't believe that you found that on the side of the road! And I love the wood showing under the distressed black. I'm going to have to give that treatment a try. I also LOVE the buffet you got at the auction. What a wonderful buy.
