On The Road Again

Saturday hubby and I will take off for a week or so to a few places I’ve never been but always wanted to see.     We are going to Vicksburg, Natchez and Saint Francisville!     I love seeing all the old homes and imagining how folks lived in My South over 100 years ago.

Thanks for my sweet friend Janie at Southern Laginappe, I have a lot of “insider” information of some wonderful places to see, places to eat and where to shop.     However, if any of you have a favorite place you’d  recommend in Vicksburg or Natchez, please leave a comment so I can add that to my “things to do” list.

I’ll be taking a lot of pictures and sharing our trip with everyone when we return.    Until then, here are a few places I’m hoping to see….

NATCHEZ HOME

VICKSBURG

MYRTLES PLANTATION

The last home (above) is The Myrtles Plantation located in Saint Francisville, Mississippi.      I saw this home featured on The History Channel as one of American’s Most Haunted Plantations.    You can read the history and mystery of The Myrtles on the website here.

I hope everyone has a Happy Valentine’s Day with your loved ones!

Is that middle one Anchuca? It is a lovely home. I used to help give Pilgrimage tours there. Be sure and drive thru the Nat'l military park in V'burg.

St. Francisville is in Louisiana, not far from the state line. Whatever you do, check out the antique shops in downtown St. Francisville, especially Grandma's Buttons. They sell some neat jewelry made from antique buttons. And be on the lookout for two sweet twin girls. That's where my son, D-I-L, and grandgirls live. ;-)

It has been almost half a century since I was in Vicksburg. The memory is as fresh today as if it happened yesterday. Loved that visit. I want to return.

Thanks to Janie, we are now planning a little trip to middle Tennessee for Spring...hoping the azaleas are in bloom. We want to travel those back roads and a little bit of the Trace.
