Mama has been amazing the past 11 days (the number of days she’s been in rehab). They work with her 3 hours every morning building up her leg and arm strength, her weakest areas. So the days I’m off (Mondays and Fridays) I plan on meeting with her around lunchtime.
Today I had planned on meeting the lady (B.J.) who will be conducting the estate sale at mama’s house around 11:30. She got there at 11:00 and we had such a good time talking that I didn’t realize it was 1:00 and I was supposed to meet mom for lunch! I hurried over to the rehab facility which is literally 2 streets from mama’s house after stopping off to grab a quick sandwich. I was quickly informed (by mama) that she was going to play bingo at 2:30 so unless I wanted to go to bingo with her, we could only visit for about an hour! I wheeled her down to the “rec room” for bingo and decided I’d stay and play with her. Mama has already made quite a few friends at the rehab place and there is a lady there from her church, too. We all crowded around a table to play bingo and it was like a bunch of older “girls” in a sorority house! She got tired of playing (and not winning) after three games so I took her back to her room and went home shortly myself to get our supper fixed.
She’s also getting a little spoiled by my hubby who calls her and goes by Hardees to get her a Little Thick Burger (her favorite) with mayo and extra, extra onions! She says he’s the only one who can get her hamburgers right!
I made a peach cobbler for dessert and we had to go to Winn Dixie for ice cream. While we were there, mama called my hubby’s cell phone and said we needed to come up to her room right away. We could see the rehab place from Winn Dixie so we hurried over….just to find out she and another “resident” had plotted and planned to be roommates! They have a lot in common, both husbands were retired military men, they were at the same air force base many years ago, and they wanted to room together! Mama wanted me to talk to the nursing supervisor and get her moved tonight….they promised they would. Lord only knows what trouble those two will get into!
Now while I’m very happy she’s happy, I think once she moves to her new home, she’ll kick me to the curb!

I'm so glad your Mom is handling the changes in her life so well. That's a big blessing, I'm sure.

My dear friends mom when through much of the same transformation and after two years, still loves her new home and friends. They have so much in common and keep each other company. You have a great blog!

At least we don't have to worry about her making friends! I tried to talk to her twice today and she said maybe tomorrow would be better. YAY!!!
Awww, that's so cute that your Mom is so excited about her roommate. What fun!
Thanks for coming by my porch and your lovely comment! I wanted you to know that you inspired me to "make" the drop cloth curtains that I used on our beach house chic dining room. It's a couple of post back. They look better in person and everyone loved them!
Your mom sounds like one great lady! I'm glad she can make the most of her situation and know that will help her recovery tremendously.
Your momma sounds adorable and I'm so glad to hear she is adjusting! My grandmother was like that. Once she adjusted she couldn't wait to play dominoes or cards!

It's so nice to hear that your mama is adjusting to her new surroundings. She's lucky to have you and your husband to look after her! My mama just called me this morning all upset and told me my cousin died. While I'm very saddened over his death, I tell you, it breaks my heart to hear my 86-year old mama so upset!
