Last weekend hubby and I took off for a 3 day weekend to Atlanta. The only “fly in the ointment” was his driving! Now, I know some of you girls can relate…..can your man follow easy-as-pie, can’t-make-a-wrong-turn, directions? Mine can’t. And if you are familiar with Atlanta traffic, especially on Friday, no, make that Friday afternoon, you know how bad it is……detours everywhere, road work going on (forever it seems) and car whizzing past like you’re sitting still! For this little girl from podunk Montgomery, it was very frightening but we survived!!! Next time, I’m driving!
Okay, now for the fun parts!
First stop was in Opelika at Angel’s. This is one of my favorite flea markets around, just up the road about 50 miles. I didn’t take very many pictures but here are a few of my favorites:
I loved this shabby white dresser. I think it was about $125 and I would have bought it but I have one at home similar to this one and if it ever gets a make-over, here’s my inspiration.
Great burlap pillows with trim….so easy to make.
The plans were to go to House Parts in Atlanta first. We-l-l, I’d heard it was in a not-so-nice part of town but that’s an understatement! When we finally found it, it appeared to be closed. The door was locked and no lights on. We saw someone go in that seemed to work there but we could not get in. Long story short, we didn’t get to go into House Parts (boo hoo)!
After all the driving around, hubby wanted to eat at The Varsity.
So much food!
Look! I made a happy face plate! I really didn’t eat both those hot dogs and all the onion rings…..hubby at both of his hamburgers and one of my hot dogs plus about 75% of the onion rings.
Next stop: The Classy Flea in Marietta! So much to see and take in but again, I didn’t take as many pictures as I wanted to cause I was too busy checking things out! Enjoy!
Loved this yellow wrought iron table and chairs. I wish I had a place for it cause you can see that it was only $179!
This toile pillow would look great in my office/guest room.
This was a great little piece for an island but again, no place for it!
What a scrumptious robin’s egg blue!
Close up of another robin’s egg blue frame. I think this must have been gold at one time and it’s been painted and antiqued.
I can’t believe I didn’t buy this plaque!
Another stop I wanted to make in Marietta was at Jon Benet Ramsey’s grave. I hope this doesn’t creep any of ya’ll out. I did a google search for the location and it was a little hard to find but find it we did. I was really surprised at how small the cemetery is, not big at all. You travel down a one car driveway to the end and there it was. Of course, her mother Patsy, her grandmother Nedra and stepsister Beth are all buried right there too.
Friday night we ate at Copeland’s in Marietta. We had the most delicious meal and topped it off with these fattening delights!
Saturday we got up and headed for the Ikea store. OMG, this place is fab-u-lous! I can see another trip planned there again with my daughter. Hubby was real good there, let me take my time and he actually enjoyed himself!
Loved EVERYTHING about this room!
Check out these ottomans….only $129.00!
I really liked this rattan lamp, it was around $89.00….a steal!
These houndstooth checked pillows were $14.00 each. There are some similar ones featured in a recent issue of Southern Living.
Sweet little girl’s room…
….and for the adventuresome little boys, the above space would be perfect!
This plate rack and dishes is exactly like mine at home.
You dish addicts would be in heaven….rows and rows of all sorts of dishes in every color imaginable!
Here’s hubby putting stuff in the trunk……let’s just say after 4 hours he was ready to go!
Saw this chair in front of a World Market and loved the color. It’s a perfect color to match my cushions on my back deck. I have a two seater metal glider that I am going to spray paint this color.
That’s about it. We got up early Sunday morning and drove home. Got back and made it to church (about a 2 1/2 hour drive), took my mom to lunch then both of us took a long nap!
Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend. We are going to the annual Mother’s Day dinner at my mom’s church. There will be 12 of us there for her! All 4 of her grown children, some grandchildren and even 2 great-grandchildren.
Have a safe and happy week!
I am SO jealous! I SO want to go to these places! I am just dying to go to the Flea and Angels in Opelika!!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you had such a good time and "shared" your trip!

You went to some of my favorites! My hubby and I eat at the Varsity and Copeland's frequently. The Classy Flea is a spot I frequent as well. Glad you had a good trip!
ReplyDeleteJudy, glad ya'll had a good time! It was fun trailing along with you to my hometown haunts. So sorry House Parts wasn't open, I wish you could see it inside. Old warehouse, but really neat.

ReplyDeleteYes, my husband is one of those drivers too. wow loved all the tours of the shopping trip.
ReplyDeleteLots of nice items. That's the way it always is; seem to find things you want but can't get them home. I just ship them now.

Judy, my mind is stuck on the burlap pillows. I love them! The food at The Varsity looks greasy and delicious!! I'm so glad y'all had fun.

ReplyDeleteIt looks like you've been having some fun girl! Awwww...the Varsity...yummy! I love Ikea too. Next time, pick up some of their dark chocolate...it's the best EVER. Yep, they sell chocolate too.

ReplyDeleteWOW, Judy what a wonderful trip you had!! Love all the antiques! Glad you had a wonderful time. They opened an IKEA in Charlotte now, I guess I'll have to go there for a visit!
ReplyDeleteYou packed a lot into your trip! It's so sweet that ou and your hubby indulge each other's tastes. That makes for a more fun time together for you both!
ReplyDeleteI do have to say that if I were in that area that I would like to see the Ramsey's grave sites. I have always been a big believer in Patsy and followed any developments. It's a shame that they haven't found Jon Benet's killer.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Judy!
ReplyDeleteI followed the Jon Benet case, and am so glad that her parents were finally cleared!
I wish the one who did this could be caught and brought to justice.
Enjoyed the shopping tour!
Judy, you should've emailed me--I live right in Marietta. My church is the monster church behind the cemetary and my kids all went to the school across the street.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you came here to the Classy Flea! How funny is that. My SIL's love to go there, and I know a bunch of people who have booths there. I had no idea it was so famous! ;-}
Thanks for a fun post about thrifting and antiquing in Atlanta! I search for new treasure stores every time I go :) I'll have to check out the Classy Flea :)
