This month I’ve been blogging five years and in all that time I’ve never hit a blogger’s block like I have since just before Thanksgiving….like my title says “I’m just not feelin’ it”! this year. We had a death in the family the night before Thanksgiving, I’ve been having some health problems and then last week my daughter had a health scare…fortunately it seems like we’re both on the road to better health.
I’ve done very little, almost none, Christmas decorating this year. I have two rooms full of stuff down from the attic but every time I look at it, I just get frustrated so I do nothing. I set up a little hot chocolate bar in the kitchen (which I plan to share soon), put a lighted garland on the mantle in the den and a simple vignette in the dining room. Not sure what’s wrong but I just don’t feel like doing anything. However, I have really enjoyed seeing all the beautiful decorations all of ya’ll are sharing.
We’re supposed to leave for the beach Christmas Day with my sister and her husband but I keep going back and forth on that too. If we don’t go with them, we are planning on a little trip to the beach for New Years like we did last year.
Our family Christmas will be at the lake (like every year) on the 22nd and I still haven’t bought the grandkids presents to take to the lake. Those are usually silly, inexpensive little presents and then they get the “big” gifts from Mimi and Pop on Christmas Day.
Last week I got my Christmas present from my husband which was having my plate rack in the kitchen rebuilt for the 3rd time! Seems like the first two times just didn’t work for me so our friend Scott (who I call Chris…inside joke) does all my Honey-Do projects and he did a bang up job. I will share that too…maybe after the holidays and things settle down a bit. Whenever I need Scott to do something for me, I always e-mail him with the reference being “401-k project”…my husband says he is funding Scott’s 401-k with all the things I keep adding to my list!
I hope to get my “groove” back and start blogging again soon….in the meantime I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!
If it helps any, I understand where you're at this year. I took almost a year and a half off from blogging after major events in our lives (deaths & broken foot). It's hard to get back to some type of "normal" after that. Hang in there and take the time you need to feel peace with things.
ReplyDeleteOh, Judy- I am so sorry you are experiencing the "blahs". Maybe it is hormonal- maybe your are just overwhelmed-maybe you are just plain tired. Is it possible you are depressed....that is sometimes just an overwhelming feeling of sadness. God bless you-I'll be praying for you- Blessings- xo Dina
ReplyDeleteJudy, sounds like depression to me, but I have faith you will be back on track really soon. Take your time. Whatever is to be will be. I am thinking and praying for you. I miss your great comments over at Uptown Acorn. Stay in touch and enjoy your family. xo
ReplyDeleteHi Judy,
ReplyDeleteI've been the same over here. Just posting Thanksgiving pictures today. Health issues are scary and that's what's stopped me dead in my tracks. My life will be lived in three month increments now. Check ups every three months at MD Anderson. Hope you're back in the saddle again soon.
Hello Judy,
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you are not doing well...hang in there my friend. Thought about you today, when we stopped in Montgomery, on our way home from my baby girl's graduation...2 down and none to go...WAR EAGLE!!!If you do some shopping at antique shops while you are here on the coast,I will be moving out of Cotton City on the 30th, and I am already in Antiques at the Loop (Mobile)...if you have never been in this mall...you will love it...it's very nice. Take care:)
Blessings,
Linda

Judy I have been following your blog for quite a while. I know exactly how you feel. I went for along time without blogging too. imtoomhave had some health issues and lost my father in August. I am being treated for depression right now, even seeing a counselor. I'm doing better, but It's hard to do things right now. I hope things look up for you soon.

I'm so sorry for your loss, health problems and nothing scares you worse than your child being sick.
ReplyDeletePrayers for a full restoration to health and happiness.
Go with your sister to the beach and have a good time. Let laughter and *Son*shine renew your heart.

ReplyDeleteHi Judy - If you don't want to decorate this year, well then don't!!! We are old enough to do what we want to! : ) I would park myself at the cocoa station and light a fir candle and hum a Christmas carol and call it done!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have put up about a third of what we did last year and I am fine with it.
And, I agree with everything Jake said.
Rhonda
I have missed your posts. But understand God giving us rest periods. It has been a busy year for you with lots of changes. Take care and I plan to check back frequently. Saw you one time at Cuco's my husband would not let me speak because he thought you would think I was a stalker. Sometimes they just do not understand !
ReplyDeleteI think since you've been through so much, it just means that your priorities have shifted right now. Christmas decorating is not a necessity and is meant to be fun. If you're not into it right now, I would just not do it. Don't put the added stress on you. Society is the only thing making us feel pressured to do that anyway! The holidays place such high expectations on us that when we feel like we don't fit in with everyone elses joy, we get depressed. Hopefully, you'll start feeling like your old self soon again. I would just do what you feel like and not worry what other people think right now. I think we've all been there at some point. I know I have! The beach might be a great mood enhancer.
ReplyDeleteLike others have said, we have all been there at some point in time! Just take take care of yourself and concentrate on getting back to feeling like "you" again :o) Can't wait to see your revised plate rack too!

Sorry about all the trying times.
ReplyDeleteIf I were you, I'd go to the beach.
PS; I need a "Chris"!
Judy, we all get that way. There are more important things in life than decorating. It's the real meat and potatoes in life - like taking care of family and health - that is much more important. I totally can relate.
ReplyDeleteSending you a hug and a Merry Christmas wish.

Judy, I am sorry you have been feeling this way. Go to the beach and enjoy yourself. It may be just what you need to get out of this funk. Sending hugs your way. Sherry

ReplyDeleteHope you and your family have a Merry Christmas! Vikki
ReplyDeleteOoops, hit return too fast. So sorry you are feeling down. I hope the new year brings you the joy you deserve.
ReplyDeleteVikki :)
Yep, this is not like you. You have had a lot on your plate this year, plus the fact that you may not be home for the holidays certainly doesn't give you the adrenaline to get the decorations up. You just go ahead and enjoy your hot cocoa at your cute hot cocoa bar, go to the beach, and forget doing all that other work this year. Merry Christmas girl!
ReplyDeleteKelly
I just found your blog from Kelly's blog and I want to say that I do understand your dilemna. I was feeling much the same this year as my dad was near death. Thanks to the Lord and many prayers, he was able to share Christmas with all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is hard to Celebrate when things are uncertain. I look forward to getting to know you better through your blog. I am from north Georgia, married to a Tech man and living in north Alabama. I love all things Southern!!
