I’ve been on the hunt for a new sofa for our den for quite some time now. I made two trips to Ikea to be ab-so-lute-ly sure about the Ektorp slipcovered sofa…one with a white slip and an additional khaki one to change things up. My son was going to pick it up with his truck and bring it home but for some reason I just couldn’t send him. Then on Monday I was out with a friend celebrating her birthday and we stopped in a high end antique gallery…this place is not your usual antique mall or flea market…you almost feel that you have to pay to go in! I never go in by myself but she likes to shop there so since it was HER birthday, in we went! Right away I saw this really pretty neutral sofa with beautiful lines and a price tag even I could live with. I had the cashier call the vendor and she agreed to discount it 15% which made it even more attractive. The next day hubby was going to check it out (i.e. lay down on it to see if he could stretch out) and we bought it! I couldn’t’ be happier. My main reason for not going with the white slipcovered one is that I would freak out every time someone sat on it I’d have to wash the slipcover…anal, I know, but that’s how I am.
Enough blabbing, here it is…
I know, totally different from a white slipcovered sofa but I love it! Nice neutral color, rolled arms, nail heads….you’re talking my language now! It has a chenille fabric that is so sofa and comfortable.
AAAAAND…while I was out shopping yesterday for MY birthday I found this gorgeous painted and distressed chest that I first planned on using in the guest room I’m working on. But once I got it home I did a switch-eroo and put it in the den and moved the chest that was in the den to the guest room.
The vendor told me this was a very old piece…I wish you could see it “in person” it is so pretty. And then the vendor came to my house and bought a piece of furniture from me that I was going to put on Craig's List so I came out ahead. I’ve bought several painted pieces from this vendor, she does amazing work.
This afternoon I’m working on painting a bookcase for the guest room. I’ve made my template for the headboard and hopefully will get that cut out this weekend. I might have to move into the guest room…it’s turning out so pretty, I can’t wait to share it with ya’ll.
Thank you for ALL of your wonderful birthday wishes, I had a wonderful day.

I'm really glad that you with this sofa...my daughter's friend had the one from Ikea in their college condo and there was no comfort with that sofa. The style and fabric with this one will last forever...great choice. Charming chest you got there too! Happy Belated B'day.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous sofa, Judy. Good choice and with 15% off-how could you resist? It looks nice. LOVE that chest- I wouldn't put it in the guest room either I would like it out where I could see it-
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you- xo Diana
Love the new sofa. It is hard to keep the white slip clean and that is why I keep a coverlet on it so Bailey won't ruin it. Belated happy birthday to you, too.
ReplyDeleteWonderful purchases, Judy! Love that chest! I can't wait to see your guest room. You are building the excitement up over that transformation!
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing when we moved in this house at the beginning of the summer. Had myself convinced to buy the Ektorp but I just couldn't stop worrying about the solid whiteness. We bought one that looks very similar to yours. Its a nice neutral without having to worry about white. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are just a busy gal in your retirement. Love it all.
ReplyDeleteLove the sofa. I am not a slip cover person except for beach house. Love the chest too. Great purchases! xo
ReplyDeleteWell happy birthday a day late! Nothing wrong with enjoying it for several days, right? And you did great with your furniture purchases! Looks wonderful! Man, you got lucky!! I need to reupholster mine, and it would be nice if I could luck up on a deal like that.

How gorgeous!! I love your new sofa and chest of drawers. I can tell it's comfortable just by looking at it! My brother and his wife have a sofa covered in chenille similar to that and it's very soft. I bet your sofa is more comfortable than the one from Ikea too. Your new chest of drawers is beautiful too. I love how you have it styled. Glad that you had a good birthday and found just what you were looking for!
ReplyDeleteYour new sofa and chest are FABULOUS! The sofa looks so lush and comfortable and that chest....OMG!! I have been looking for something just like that for ages for my living room. It is such a stunning piece :o) Can't wait to see what you have been up to in your guest room too!

I did the very same thing! Wanted (or thought I did) neutral slipcovered sofa and ended up with one very similar in color and fabric to yours. Mine curves in slightly on each end which has ended up being a bit problematic but I still love it.
ReplyDeleteLate happy birthday!
Rhonda
Love your new sofa!! I have been following your blog for some time and really enjoy it, but for some reason this post just spoke to me so this is my first time to comment. I think white slip covered sofas are very pretty, but are not always the best fit for everyone. I bought a sofa very similar to your's about 4 years ago and am still very happy with it even through the white slip covered fad. I think you will be very pleased with your choice. I think it is timeless. And sooo comfy and does not show dirt at all! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI had to speak up and add that the toned neutral color of the sofa fabric looks fabulous with your linen pillows--this color sofa will adapt to anything, it's perfect!
