Southern Living Idea House–Photo Removal

I have been contacted by a copyright person at Southern Living demanding that I remove my photos from my blog of the Southern Living Idea house in Senoia, Georgia.    He stated there were signs saying something to the effect of no photographs can be taken.     I did not see the sign and specifically asked the person on the front porch where we bought our tickets if I could take pictures, he said to help myself and take all I wanted!  Just about everyone there in the house touring it was taking pictures so I didn’t think I was doing anything wrong.

So  in order to comply with his demand I will be removing both posts today.

I hate to sound disgruntled but I think they need to be a little more clear about their policy…surely I’m not the first person (nor will I be the last) to take photos of their idea houses….and I know I’m not the only blogger posting them!

  1. well thats a shame.
I certainly wouldnt have known anything about it if not for your post.
It seems to me it was free advertising for them and we all know what advertising costs these days.

sorry you are going through this and thank you for letting us see it in the first place.

  2. I'm sorry that happened to you, Judy. You're right -- they should definitely make their policy clearer ... and it should apply to everyone!

    Hard but I understand.

  5. Then did Rhoda have to take down her pictures? That's too bad.

  6. The idea is to share the "idea" house with those who are confined and home bound and don't have the opportunity to visit because of a 9-5 p.m. job. What bad p.r. on their part. Hope no one else goes to visit. Just glad I saw your posts before you had to remove them. Thanks for sharing.

  8. UGH! That's awful. Honestly, I had ZERO interest in going until I saw your pictures. They should be thanking you!

  9. Oh Poo on them!! How did they even see your pics on your blog in the first place? Well, guess what? I saved all your photos to my own file so I can view them whenever I want. People that won't allow pictures of a decorated home, that is there to inspire people, should be allowed to take pictures. What about Rhoda? She put them on her blog too. If you can't share them, then nobody else should be allowed to either. That makes me mad to hear that they contacted you to remove them especially when you were told it was fine. Next time...I'm taking names when someone gives me permission. Ha!

  10. Good grief! I would have thought they would have appreciated the publicity that would make people want to see the house. Maybe they are afraid it will cut back on their magazine sales when the issue comes out with it in it. hmmm..wonder about pins on pinterest? I hate this for you.

  11. Okay, I see that Rhoda has had to take hers down too and hold them until after the magazine has released in the fall. You can put yours back up then I would guess. Sounds like it is the magazine sales that they are concerned about.

  13. Oh Judy,

I am so sorry! I saw that Rhoda had to take them down, too! They were amazing! She said that you all could post them later, so I guess we will have to wait.

    Have a wonderful day!
