Mini-Announcement–I’m Retired!

Last week I hinted about some drama going on in my life which was work-related.    Due to said drama, I am now officially retired!    (Unless I find something part-time I love doing).     At this time I can’t go into a lot of detail about the drama (and it’s juicy) but I promise I will at the appropriate time.

Since this is my first week “off” I’m trying to figure out how to fill up the day.    So far I’ve been shopping and eating out!   But of course, that can’t last forever.    I have lots of plans for purging and cleaning my house and working on never-ending projects.      Also, I’ll be making a much anticipated trip to the Ikea store in Atlanta soon for my new slipcovered sofa….but I need to sell my old sofa first.

My BFF has a place at the beach and I'm heading down there sometime this month to spend some time with her.    I also want to keep the twins once a week….since they turned 8 it seems like they have grown up overnight….it won’t be many more summers they won’t think hanging out with MiMi is fun!

I’ll be taking my mom for our annual visit back to the home place in Lowndes County.

I’ve been planning our meals better and hubby loves having a home cooked meal every night as opposed to us rushing around and eating out.

I plan on starting to walk around the neighborhood early in the morning before it gets too hot….and I want to join a ladies’ Bible study.

As you can see, I have lots of “plans”….I just hope I don’t get too bored not having someplace to go every morning.

Right now I’m off to change sheets and clean bathrooms…..not fun but necessary!

Enjoy the day!!!

  1. Congratulations Judy. I think you'll find plenty of things to busy yourself. And while it seems like maybe this wasn't the timing you had planned for I do believe all things happen for a reason and love that you're making the most of it :-) xo

  9. You will love retirement! Hubby and I retired on the same day (1-31-2008) four years ago and never regretted it. And since I retired my cooking has greatly improved. I have the time to look at recipes (love Pinterest) and I've learned a few new things to make our food taste better. Hubby loves my cooking now. I just never had the time and energy when working - especially when we had the long daily three hours round trip commutes. We've been able to get things done around our home too. It's so nice to get up and do what we want to do. We can take the long trips now without the worrying about coming back to a heavy work load...cause there is no work anymore. Don't be surprised how filled up your days become when retired. I still don't have enough time in a day to do all that I want. It's a sweet time! Enjoys yours!

  10. Hey, Judy, congrats on being retired. I know you will enjoy having more time & I bet you won't get bored. I hope you'll let me know when you come to ATL, if I can possibly meet you, I'd love to see you. As you may know, I'm busy renovating a house. Lots to do, but making progress.

  11. What exciting news, Judy!!!! When life gives us too much stress, it's a sign to step back and regroup. I'm so glad you did. I hope to retire either at the end of the next school year or the October afterward. I'm scared to DEATH of what I can possibly find to do to fill my days. I've worked all of my life, through a graduate degree obtained through night classes while working full time, through three pregnancies and three children growing up..... So I'll be waiting for you to give us all the rundown on what retirement is really like.

    ENJOY!!!!

  13. Wow! Our story is so much alike.
I just retired because of work.
I will be following you very closely. I'm a bit scared but very excited. I like the way you are starting out.

  14. Congratulations, Judy! I was so stressed out {which exacerbated my IBS} at my job in a law office due to all the stupid stuff they did. But it was 10 minutes from my house, so I put up with it. I couldn't wait to quit. Once my hubby was offered a job transfer to Ohio and we talked about it, I was on cloud 9 because I knew I was going to be giving notice. It was the best day of my life at that office!

Be aware though, now that I'm not working, time goes by so fast! I wish the days at work had gone this fast.
