This is an old time supper that I remember my mom serving on Sunday nights. Nothing better than big ole’ pan of hot cornbread and a tall cold glass of sweet milk.
My hubby likes to start with filling an empty glass half way with crumbled cornbread, then adding milk, and topping off with more cornbread…..yummy on the tummy! (He even called his mom to tell her what we were having!!!)
Have you ever heard of cornbread and milk or have you ever tried it? If not, I encourage you to give it a try, I think you’ll like it.
If you’d like to see my cornbread recipe you can find it here.
I've never had cornbread and milk. Though when I was a kid my grandpa used to tear up white sandwich bread and pour some milk over top and add a little sugar. We always thought it was such a treat.
ReplyDeleteMy Grandfather would have buttermilk and cornbread.
ReplyDeleteI can't bring myself to try it.
Judy,
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny that you posted this...my sister and I were just talking about this a few weeks ago...she never liked it and I did! I always remember eating this with my mom, but I haven't had it in a real long time...looks like I need to make a pan of cornbread soon!
Blessings,
Linda
Yum! I love it too!
ReplyDeleteOk, I don't think my last comment went through so I am sending another.
ReplyDeleteI grew up eating cornbread and milk. We loved it. My grandparents used buttermilk and I think my granny ate it four or five nights a week.
Sweet memories! Thanks.
My mom and dad would eat this ..
ReplyDeleteobviously enjoying it!
I never would.. or could..
am quite the finicky eater!
I prefer my cornbread hot, and slathered with butter!!
Warm sandy hugs..

You bet I've heard of it! Just had it for supper myself on Sat. since my husband was at work! My mom is a country cook from the mountains of WV and I remember her fixing herself a bowl of cornbread and milk for a snack after we had a supper of maybe pinto beans and cornbread! Great memories!
ReplyDeleteMy husband eats cornbread and milk whenever he gets the chance. I tease him of being older than he is... (39) but he loves it! :)
ReplyDeleteCornbread & Milk ahhhhhhhh! Yes, girl I know what that is. I can eat it anytime of day when I take the crunchy edged cornbread from the oven..
ReplyDeleteoh my, this reminds of my in-laws (they're from Oklahoma). I gotta tell ya, it about makes this California girl hurl. Sorry, I think it must be an acquired taste. Since I have major texture issues, I don't think I'll be joining you in this treat, lol.
ReplyDeleteNo, I've never heard of it, but I'm going to give it a try...on my hubby first. Thanks!

This brought back fond memories, Judy. My grandparents used to have cornbread and milk for their Sunday suppers. I don't like milk, so I never tried it.
ReplyDeleteYUM! Love this... I suppose it is a generational thing...I almost never have cornbread any more.. We just don't need it.. But my favorite "supper" in the year is the night before Thanksgiving when I have that big glass of milk with crumbled cornbread..So good when you have had food on the brain all day.
ReplyDeleteOk, I have never heard of cornbread and milk, but I might give it a try. My dad used to have biscuits in his coffee.. it was actually pretty good too. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh I love it! I had this so many times with my grandmother when I was a child. Every once in a while I have it now. Sometimes a simple thing is the very best!
ReplyDeleteMy mom loves it. I cant bring myself to try it.
ReplyDeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteYes I have eaten cornbread and milk. Try adding Steen's Cane Syrup to it. Delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll love it.
OMG! I am just now seeing this post and it has brought back a mega memory surge this morning!!!
ReplyDelete(I am adding you to my sidebar right now, so I won't miss things)
My mama also loved this treat. She ate it often at mealtime in her last, independent days.
It was never my really my favorite, but I really tried to love it!
Rhonda
OMG that looks SO good! We definitely have to try it! Have a happy holiday, Judy, and a fantastic New Year's! Hope to see you in 2011!

Okay, I must say I love cornbread but have NEVER in my life seen or heard of cornbread in milk. Do you mix it up? drink it or eat it with a spoon. But then again, as a native californian...maybe that is why. I think my yahoos will love this...thanks for the idea....
