Color Suggestions?

Since our crisis with the hot water heater (if you missed that you can read about it here) I am now having to chose a new color for my bedroom walls as well as carpet.     I have not liked the wall color since it went up about 2 years ago so while this ordeal is very stressful, I’m looking forward to a new wall color in the bedroom.

Now I need all you decorating divas to chime in and give me some suggestions.     Here’s what I’m working with and what has to stay:

1.   Upholstered headboard from Ballards in creamy pintuck.     I have been using a white matlasse spread and with dark khaki dust ruffle and shams.    It’s not working.     For whatever reason, the headboard comes off yellow-y with the white although I’ve seen that combination in blogland but of course, colors aren’t always true on the internet.    I’ve also considered making a “slipcover” for the headboard with ties on the side to match a dust ruffle and shams….see I’m all over the place on this!

2.    We have a triple dresser and highboy in a dark cherry finish…these have to stay.

3.    The window treatments are tortishell bamboo blinds and my go-to drop cloth drapes.    I plan on sewing a wide contrasting border at the bottom like I did in my dining room but haven’t done that yet b/c I’m not sure what I’m using on the bed!

I wanted to just paint the walls a creamy color but that’s been impossible to decide.     While at the paint store Saturday, someone in there was getting another gallon of paint in Macadamia…which I really like.     Another color sample I have is Woodstock Tan which is a really rich color but hubby thinks it’s too dark.  I guess I could have the Woodstock Tan cut to 1/2 the strength.

Now I’d love any suggestions for paint color and if you have some inspiration pictures you could send me a link to, I’d love that as well.     The sheetrock work is being done tomorrow morning so I’m thinking the painting will start over the weekend.

I can’t wait to hear from ya’ll!

  1. Hey Judy, Just catching up on blogs (I have been out of town) and sorry to hear that your DIY duties are apparently not over. Didn't think you had a master bedroom project to add to your list, did ya? Well at least you have the right attitude and your bedroom is getting a makeover and you can now paint the walls to a color that you will like much better. So there is a silver lining.

A decorating diva I am not so I don't know how much help I would be there. Can't wait to see how your room gets transformed.

  2. So sorry to hear about your forced redecorating project. I hope you enjoy the finished project.

As for color, anything in the taupe family makes my heart swoon!

  3. Hi Judy
I am officially on a blog break. We are at the lake, where we are finishing a master bedroom makeover. Believe it or not, the walls were still the sprayed on builder blah white after 7 years.

When we redid our room at home we used SW Antique White, as in Rhoda's dining room. Absolutely love and it works well with all the shades of white in the room.

Now we come to our room here at the lake. I am using a sort of chartreuse, aqua and off white for bedding, etc. The furniture is ivory. Again we opted for the SW Antique White. I have photos of the colors I am using on my current post. Furniture is being delivered SAT. Hope to get the room finished and a post up over the weekend.

Sorry for going off on a tangent! I like the antique white in our applications. It's a wonderful neutral.

Sorry you are having to go through this unexpected makeover!

  5. I haven't had to paint in so long, I'm sorry I can't help. I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this though. You'll probably be excited once all the decisions are made and the project is finished.

    Hugs,
    Kat

  6. Judy,
My tried and true are Duron colors, I have used them forever now and never tirer of them.
The are all from the same family, and I have used varying shades in different rooms/hallways in our home. They go with everything.
Ancestral (the lightest), Pate (medium), and Pelican (the darkest of the three). These are older colors so you have to ask for them. They range from a cream with a hint of khaki, to a darker khaki.

  8. Judy,
Sorry I missed seeing you Saturday, but glad you like the coffee sack. I'm also sorry you are having to "re-decorate" your bedroom. But as many have already said, there is a silver lining. I can't wait to see the out come. I know it will be beautiful.

  10. I have the best color that we painted our whole house in. It is Camoflage by Benjamin Moore...but any paint store can mix it for you. It is the palest green, but also creamy. It changes with the light. I am so pleased with it! Good Luck!

  11. I would go with a medium tone (with a hint of brown) gray - warm and not cold looking. Or there's always Tobacco Road. Both great neutrals! The gray would look FAB with your creamy headboard and with your dark furniture. Its very hip right now too! Love your blog! :)
