I’m just about ready for the beach tomorrow. Just a few things to finish up in the morning and then we’ll load the car when I get home and head south. However, there is one little detail that I can’t forget ------getting a tan! In my youth, I cooked myself in the sun using the old standby of baby oil and iodine. I always tanned easily so I was always “brown” all summer long. As time went by, I paid attention to those harmful sun rays and stopped the outdoor tanning, trading that for the tanning bed. Yep, you heard right, I toasted myself under those lights to get my fake bake! Now that I’m older and wiser, I’ve even stopped doing that (not totally but just about)…..so what’s girl to do? A wise old man once said “tan fat is better than white fat” so who am I to question that theory? So my quest for a bottled tan started. I’ve tried it all and while there are a lot of good products out there, the best one I’ve found is the Jergens Natural Glow Express.
I get the medium/tan skin tone one. It guarantees to give you “a full shade of natural summer color in just three days.” I started applying mine on Monday night and even today (Wednesday), I was really tan! I had made an appointment at my local day spa for a spray tan (which I do every year when we go to Mexico) but I cancelled it because I was so dark! Even the hubby noticed!
Another product that I use is Maybelline Dream Glow Instant Bronzing Makeup. I don’t know where I picked this up but judging from the sticker on the back, I’d say it probably came from Burke’s Outlet. I paid $3.99 for it and it is wonderful.
It is a bronzing lotion and you don’t have to use very much. I apply it to my legs with a little lotion so it goes on smooth. My tube is for medium skin tones. I have had trouble finding this product in stores but I think you can order it on line. Be sure it is the Instant Bronzing Makeup and not another one of their Dream Glow Products.
I’d love to know what products you use to get a fabulous sun kissed tan and if you get a chance, I highly recommend you try one of these items.
I love my Mystic Tan from a local place here in town :) sprays on and lasts pretty much all week. I do NOT like holding my breath though during the initial spray ugh!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a tanning salon. My parents owned one. And I too, being an Arkansas girl did the whole baby oil and iodine bit. I like the FAKE BAKE products and famous dave. (you can order famous dave online.) I have been looking for that Maybelline stuff and cant find it!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommends- I have a lovely "farmers" tan that needs a little help- =)
ReplyDeleteThis old body hasn't seen tan in ages! Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteperhaps tan in a tube is for me. LOL
I have never had any luck with these products, I end up looking like a streaked pumkin. Really, not a lovely sight. I'll give yours a try...if you say it is really that great! I love a little color but trying to stay away from too much sun! Thanks! Janell
ReplyDeleteThe Hawaiian Tropic Island Radiance works really well, too. It's a gel in a tube.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any advice on tanning products. I spend alot of time outdoors, so I always have some tan going on. I am fair, but don't burn easily, however, I don't tan dark, which is fine with me. I am a sunscreen queen now that I am older (and hopefully wiser). I bought some of the new neutrogena stuff this year, SPF 70 - for faces. I use a bit of a bronzing powder in place of make-up this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI'm in my 40's and I really think that we women reach an age where there is a point we can look *too dark*. It's not a flattering look. LOL!

Judy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips on the products. I used to bake in the Colorado sun, but stopped years ago. If I only knew then what I know now... Wishing you a great vacation.
Cathy
Great to know!
ReplyDeleteI am the redhead that spends way to much time with my dermatologist.
I need my tan in a tube.
I am like you-I tan easy-but getting older I realize that it is not so good for your skin- although I USE to not care ha! I can not tan in tanning beds--I burn. Therefore, these products come in handy for me! THANKS for sharing!!\
ReplyDeleteOh, and I TOTALLY agree with tan fat is better!haha!!! Have Fun in Mexico. I am sure you will look beautiful you look like a classy gal.... ENJOY!!!!
I do agree that tan fat does look better than white fat!
ReplyDeleteOh my what a perfect post. I just bought some, I was a little scared to try it because I am very fair. But now I can't wait to use it. Thank you...
ReplyDeleteNo advice - 1 day in the sun and I'm tan although I do try to prevent it now that I'm getting older. I still maintain an olive skin tone year round and use a sunscreen when I know I'll be out in the sun for a while.
ReplyDeleteI'm just catching up - HAVE AN AWESOME FUN VACATION! I'm so jealous! ;) We keep pushing ours back this year. Hoping in the fall that we'll be going. Your resort looks like fun - that view is gorgeous! Can't wait to hear all about it and then see your new door when you return.
