This past weekend hubby and I left for a few days on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I wanted to stop in Mobile to check out a couple of flea markets I found on line. The only one we went to was a real disappointment….I didn’t even take pictures. The stuff was a little outdated and, as hubby says, they were real proud of their prices!
But the neighborhood the flea market was in was the neatest little place I’ve seen in a while. On the one street we checked out, you could tell that all the houses and yards were lovingly tended to by the owners.
See for yourself…..
After leaving Mobile we headed to the Biloxi/Gulfport area. Almost four years after Hurricane Katrina, there is still quite a bit of destruction to be seen. However, many of the residents have rebuilt and I believe have done a beautiful job of bringing “beauty back from ashes”. Here are a few of the homes I took pictures of on the road behind Hwy. 90, the main highway connecting Biloxi and Gulf Port where there was so much damage:
Most of the trees are finally coming back to life. I took this sitting in a Wendy’s parking lot. The part of the strip mall you can see is still not completely operable….there used to be a little ice cream shop on the end of the mall where we’d get ice cream.
Looking across Hwy. 90 at the gulf. From what I understand, the eye of the hurricane came in right about in this area.
I wish I had a better picture of this home….it was landscaped so beautifully. There was a sign in the yard indicating that a landscaper lived here.
You can see how much I loved this little green house….I took lots of pictures of it!
Hubby decided he liked the “Craftsman” style home
Look at this grove of old trees….
Look, honey, maybe we could afford this house on the beach!
Aren’t these trees amazing?
Cute little white cottage….wonderful swing!
Right after I took this picture my camera batteries died so as they say “That’s all folks”!
I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Memorial Day!
I love all the cottages. They are so beautiful!

ReplyDeleteThose are some really charming cottages....love 'em! Very warm and welcoming. Linda
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed so much seeing the Craftsman's Bungalows! I have one and we are remodeling. Now trying to decide on the front, which way to build an over hang for the porch. i can not wait to show my husband. Love love love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Judy. I love the cottages. It's wonderful to see the homes and yards cared for, in older neighborhoods.
ReplyDeleteIt's also good to see the gulf coast coming back!
I love cottages and you took some really good pictures on your trip of them! Craftsman style homes are one of my favorites! Thanks for sharing some of your trip with us!
ReplyDeleteHey there I am from Mobile...you clearly didn't go to the "real" flea market. It is HUGE, off Schillengers Road. I thought I recognized those first few houses! Have a good day
ReplyDeleteHi Judy,
ReplyDeleteLove the house pics and I am in agreement with your hubby on the Craftsman style home. Funny how over the years our tastes change, I would not have probably picked that style years ago. Sounds as though you had a really nice time even if that flea market was a bust.

We drove to the Nashville flea market this past weekend. I had never been before and was kind of disappointed. The best one is the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Los Angeles. Too bad I won't be going there too much any more. It is the best!
ReplyDeleteThe cottages are all great!
I loved this!!!! I could drive by and look at houses like that all day...I could live in any of those sweet cottages! Thanks for coming by girl..about the cabinets...they are solid oak...you know I painted them last year the creamy white with the mocha glazed...bout near killed me...had to prime two coats....paint two coats....then glaze!
ReplyDeleteThe great part about painting them black this time was that it was so simple...I used Ralph Lauren...Black Truffles in the satin finish...I didn't sand...prime or any of that...I just painted two coats and that was it...no sanding between coats or nothing..they look even better in person and the difference they make in my counter top is amazing...I could even be very happy with the tops ones painted black also but for now I am loving the two colors in the kitchen...more of a cottagey look...who knew I could keep my black and still throw alittle cottage style in! lol Have a great weekend girl!
What beautiufl homes and I would take any one of them. Even the trailer on the beach!

ReplyDeleteMy husband and I went to visit his brother in Gulfport at the same time you were there and we were saddened to see all the beautiful beach front homes destroyed off Hwy 90. We didn't take our camera the day we went to see the devastation and I was so happy to see your pictures of the beautiful cottages. Got a chance to go to Edgewater Mall in Biloxi and what a beautiful view of the ocean from Dillards!
ReplyDeleteSorry I am alittle late reading this post, but I absolutely loved it. Thank you for sharing all of the fascinating home from down sout. I just love the cottage and bungalow homes and their style. Those huge trees are just amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

thanks for this sharing! such an extraordinary trip! I really enjoyed it! I like very much these storybook cottages! I could recommend you another fantastic storybook home, namely The Witch House from Beverly Hills. It looks like the house of Hansel and Gretel. Its owner, michaellibow lives there. He is a lucky guy, in my opinion!
